In past years this route has taken place a little later in the week but we have decided to use it as our “recovery ride” this year after our Queen Stage up Santa Rosa based upon your feedback to stay closer to home on the Wednesday recovery ride. There is a nice short option today for those who just want to spin the legs a little but otherwise truly recover, and unlike in prior years where our Wednesday ride required an earlier morning start to drive, we will stay “near the ranch” and just roll out from the Adelaide at 9:00 AM. Today’s ride is called Templeton, which is where our only SAG stop will be.
The short route (18.7 miles and 887 ft of elevation) is essentially an out and back to the Town of Templeton. Those opting for this short route will ride out of Paso on Vine, turn right on Hwy 46 (Green Valley Road) and make a left on N. Bethel Road and follow the route to Templeton Park for our SAG stop. The return is on the East side of Hwy 101.
The main route (34.7 miles and 2233 ft of elevation) and the long route (52 miles and 3037 ft of elevation) both leave Paso the same way – Nacimiento Lake Drive, left on Adelaida Road and left again at Vineyard Drive at mile 11.5. We will take Vineyard and turn left on Peachy Canyon Road (mile 15.6) and turn right on Willow Creek Road (mile 16.2). We used to take Vineyard Dr down to the traffic circle in order to cross Hwy 46, but in past years we discovered Willow Creek Road had fresh pavement and was a lovely ride. Vineyard is still an option if you don’t want to branch off on Willow Creek. No matter which route you decide today, the beauty and variety of the terrain is a great example of why we come to Paso each year. And so here it is again.
The main route omits the run through the Ranchlands east of Templeton after our SAG stop at Templeton Park and instead returns to the Adelaide Inn on River Road.
The long route includes a delightful tour through the Ranchlands, east of Hwy 101.
There will be one SAG stop today for all three routes at around mile 24.4 for the main and long routes and mile 8.4 for the short route. The SAG stop is at the town park in the center of Templeton, where you will find shade, bathrooms and other facilities.
Here is a RidewithGPS overlay option of today’s routes – check the box for “Show all on map” to see all three routes together.
